good news is
Davis had a fever on Tues, Dec 6
withOUT seizure!
that's a first to celebrate!
normally a seizure is early warning that he's getting sick
so we spent tuesday eagerly and anxiously wondering
will he remain seizure-free?
we have been gradually decreasing meds
so all the more wonder and excitement
about this change and possibility
bad news is
at 4:30a on Wed, Dec 7
we woke up to the sound of Davis having a seizure
over the baby monitor
we
can
hear
his bed shaking against the wall
awful sound
lance & i both leap out of bed
almost too fast
that the blood rushes
and i feel light-headed
as we sit beside him
in the dark of his room
helplessly waiting and watching
for the seizure
to end
and it does
this week marks 3 years of this unknown seizure journey
in that time our little man
has had
52 seizures counting the one this morning
so not the news i wanted to share
with A&C at breakfast this morning
but it was clearly top of mind for them
they too understand how remarkable yesterday was
and so disappointed they were
i could see how they both just wanted to see him
but you don't wake a sleeping sick brother
lance & i reflected
that we are still affirmed in decision to decrease medication
and to continue to taper off dose going forward
we are seeing improvement in his focus and character
and the seizure this morning was manageable
manageable seizure - that's an oxymoron!
what i mean by that
is
the severity and duration didn't require extra meds
or a 911 call
i always feel so proud of lance & i as a team
when we make it through a seizure episode without ER
with incredible peace and discernment from God!
during those scary moments when it seems time stands still
i am thankful for the wonderful people loving on Davis each week
through physical therapy
through church school
through AEA assessments
he delights in seeing and hugging each of them!
so often many of us find ourselves in situations we cannot control
and we negotiate within ourselves
and ultimately choose to press on or to quit
last week Sunday we watched a super clip titled "It Ain't Over"
yesterday i had two unrelated work meetings
focused on moving forward
so i leave you with more quotes that have stuck with me:
"sometimes your joy is the source of your smile,
but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy."
"people are like stained-glass windows.
they sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within."
"shine on -
don't be the bulb that takes out the whole strand."
this just in
carver just called from the school counselor office
during his lunchbreak
to ask how davis is doing
love.these.boys!
Awww Carver, you are the sweetest big brother! Davis is sooo blessed to have all of you as family! Praying this is a one seizure illness. I just want to come give him a big hug and receive one of his giant loveable bear hugs back! Love to you all!
ReplyDeleteGod love Carver as I do. You are at the forefront of my mind. Continuing to pray for you all.
