post-haircut reflections
haircuts for Davis
have been challenging at best
torturous more commonly
but tonight is declared best.haircut.ever!
he put the chair in position (in the kitchen)
sat still most of the time
we periodically reminded him to be a statue
he requested song #4 on the ipad
10,000 Reasons is his favorite song
it played on repeat the entire haircut
and i was not allowed to sing along!
i am wowed
by how this dreaded haircut
is probably the highlight of my Saturday
prior to the haircut
the highlights of my day would have been
>deep cleaning the fridge
>cooking a meal
>family devotions - song, Keys for Kids, Amen song
>with all 5 of us home for the night
during supper Davis was busy eating peas
and asked if he could have some of the carrots too
sure!
we didn't tell him it was diced butternut squash :)
"mmm, i like carrots!" he said
a picture of Davis post haircut
makes him look so grown up
he will be 5 in 2+ weeks!
this always brings a season of anticipation for me
i'm not going to wait for his birthday to celebrate
as of this morning
Davis is
18 WEEKS SEIZURE-FREE
that's a L-O-N-G stretch!
we haven't been that long without a seizure
since 2011
and for the record, the longest stretch he has ever had
was 28.0 weeks seizure-free
we are only 10 hopeful weeks from that
so i'm full of anticipation
and reminiscing
Davis' birthday always kicks off for me
a string of memories about 2008, a transformational year
- Apr 2008: our unexpected God-planned #3 son arrived
- May/Jun 2008: Avery hospitalized 10 days & emergency surgery
- Jun 2008: celebrated Carver's birthday in Avery's hospital room
- Jul 2008: returned to work after 12-week maternity leave
- Sep 2008: Lance's employer forced to close; immediately unemployed
- Dec 2008: Davis stopped breathing, first seizures and air-lifted to DSM
- Dec 2008: Tricia gallbladder attack
- Dec 2008: family vacation to Cocoa Beach, FL
- NYE 2008: Tricia's gallbladder removal surgery
the list above over-simplifies the emotions and the formative impact
of that year
i give thanks to God that 2013 will mark the 38th year in my storyline
and i eagerly anticipate what He has planned for the years ahead

Rom 8:15
This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike "What's next, Papa?"
I Peter 3:15
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
