Request from Carver Van Zee

Hi, I’m Carver Van Zee, I’m a 6th grader at Jefferson Intermediate School and in youth ministry at Third Church in Pella, Iowa. I have decided to support the Meals from the Heartland event in Pella this Saturday, March 12. My goal is to raise $1,095 THIS WEEK, which will feed 3 meals a day to a family of 5 for a year! At a cost of $0.20 per meal per person it will cost $3.00 per day to feed a family of 5 like mine, times 365 days got me to the goal of $1,095. If you would be willing to fund feeding a family for a day ($3) or more that would be greatly appreciated by me. I am praying God will bless my request with an abundant amount of money so others can be fed and  blessed.
Isaiah 58:10 “Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.”

My experience in October 2014 at the Meals from the Heartland packaging facility was very fun. You don’t even realize that you are working because it is so fun. You don’t realize it because you're racing with the other packaging tables to see who can get the most boxes finished in the time you’re there.

Meals from the Heartland is a nonprofit organization. They are made up of volunteers from businesses, schools, churches, community organizations and beyond who package meals for delivery to starving people around the world as well as in Central Iowa and elsewhere in the United States.

The inspiration for the Meals from the Heartland effort began with a 2007 food-packaging event held during Lent by a church in West Des Moines, Iowa. The success of that event encouraged leaders to organize a community-wide food-packaging event that would involve more volunteers to feed hungry children and families. It was that leap of faith that brought Meals from the Heartland to Des Moines in 2008, resulting in 12,000 volunteers who packaged more than 4 million meals in a week’s time at our first Annual Hunger Fight.

The success of that first event led to the development of a year-round meal packaging effort. Thousands of volunteers now come together to package millions of meals year-round.
