why blog?
great question.
1. many of you encouraged me to
2. on carepages i was only sharing my scary crisis stories, and i wanted you to know that there are many great days in-between those valleys
3. from the vantage point of my various roles there are SO MANY stories that happen EVERY day
4. i want to remember this journey
5. writing my stories is therapeutic processing for me personally
6. there are a few blogs that i follow regularly that have touched, molded and shaped my perspective and responses to life
7. i treasure how even snippets through facebook status updates builds and strengthens connections
8. but ultimately i'm sharing after last weekend hearing how one story from my friend, that she posted online, that i forwarded to my mom, touched and inspired the heart of a 6th grade girl. wowza! and i was struck by what if each of us were more generous (and vulnerable) in sharing our stories? the good, the bad, and the ugly? would it change us? would it change those around us? the Bible is an accumulation of stories. we all are a current living part of God's story. His-story!
reminds me of a piece i performed for forensics many years ago
All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned In Kindergarten
by Robert Fulghum
-Share everything.
-Play fair.
-Don't hit people.
-Put things back where you found them.
-Clean up your own mess.
-Don't take things that aren't yours.
-Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
-Wash your hands before you eat.
-Flush.
-Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
-Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
-Take a nap every afternoon.
-When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
-Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
-Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
-And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all - LOOK.
so i'm committed to sharing
my oven timer is beeping
for Sunday morning breakfast
today we are having a favorite recipe from my mom
it was a standard muffin recipe from her sister-in-law
but my mom modified it for a jelly roll pan
so much easier!
it's shared below ;)
Blueberry Muffins in a pan
3.5 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp baking powder
cut in 1 stick oleo
set aside 1.5 cups of above mixture
mix in
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 cans of blueberries (drained)
put mixture into a sprayed jelly roll pan
cut 2 Tbsp of butter through the 1.5 cups of set aside mixture
sprinkle across the top of the batter in the jelly roll pan
bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 minutes
ENJOY! :)
Yum-o! I am so glad you're sharing yourself. I too find it so important to write. My mind never stops, and sometimes just putting it all out there is the best medicine for me. I'm honest - to a fault sometimes - and it helps me find the real-ness in other people as well! I think that's what God wants from all of us - not ourselves, but ourREALselves.
