you know you are a multi-tasking working mom when...

you schedule a reoccurring meeting on Tuesdays, so you can go home to stay with your youngest son while your husband attends a weekly Parenting with Love & Logic luncheon
...
you find soup in the fridge, open it up to make sure nothing is visibly growing on it - quite certain it's been in there for several weeks
...
while the soup is being reheated in the microwave, you log onto the webinar titled Bringing Harmony to the Workforce Generation Gap
...
youngest son is requesting that Wii Sports Resort be turned on IMMEDIATELY. i think to myself, why isn't the middle son (who is home from school with fever + sore throat) helping the youngest son? hmmm.
...
get wii started. get soup out of microwave.
...
middle son yells for the plunger. NICE! exactly what i want to do as i'm eating lunch and listening to a webinar. so i plunge the toilet while holding back my gag reflex hoping to keep those first few bits of soup from re-appearing. successful! celebrate the small things! :)
...
sit down to continue with soup and webinar
...
i overhear C talking. to who? well of course, the Schwanns lady is here - and C answered the door in his boxers. NICE again!
...
can i just ask her to leave? i don't have any extra capacity to even think through this right now. nothing is written on the list. we are not out of broccoli (our favorite schwanns product). so yeah. i wrestle with the ridiculous guilt of not ordering. my husband always orders. she's got to be disappointed to find that he's not home. mental note to her - come earlier or later on tuesdays. so i page through the catalog - ordering frozen fruit cups, waffles, and turkey sausage breakfast sandwiches. did i mention that we are overdue in getting to the store and A. couldn't find anything for breakfast except a piece of toast with honey?
...
sit back down to the webinar. wonder where i put my bowl of soup that wasn't visibily growing anything and is likely now cold. in the midst of all of the above where would you put a bowl of soup?
...
middle son asks if i'm going to put the schwanns stuff in the freezer or just leave it on the counter. NICE yet again!
...
youngest son comes running for a high-5 as he just scored a strike in wii bowling. he has become the lead bowler in this home. he fairly beat dad 3 games in a row last week, and defeated his highly competitive oldest brother (yes i smiled in delight)
...
found my soup - just follow the dog's nose for food
...
"I NEED CHOCOLATE MILK!"
just a minute
finish my last bite of soup
listen to webinar
C is asking about sky diving
in front of me D has placed his sippy cup, the nesquick and a spoon - all while chanting I NEED CHOCOLATE MILK
...
we are raising the next generation of our future workforce.
i'm confident they will expect flexibility!
the afternoon back in my office will seem so quiet and slow compared to this
it's all about perspective ;)
